Qianpima: ‘No One Knows You Were Here’

‘No one knows you were here’ is a concert recording of 6 songs by the band Qianpima. Made during the months following the start of the pandemic in Singapore, the music comes out of a desire to envision states of emotion and imagery, songs of longing between nature, city and mind.

About Q i a n p i m a :
Qianpima is anGie seah, Aya Sekine, Ian Woo and Wu Junhan. Qianpima started life as a band initiated by seah for her performance and sound artwork ‘A Thousand Horses Running in My Head’. Inspired by the use of hypnotic rhythms and drone sounds, the music made by this improvisational unit intuitively led them to incorporate elements of song structures as form and direction. These early experimentations in music were performed at the NTU Center for Contemporary Art and the Art Science Museum in Singapore. Elements of popular and folk music are often weaved with the influences of the blues and dub music. Imagery is also used as starting points in song titles to suggest filmic worlds with fictional environments and characters. Qianpima which is derived from the Chinese characters ‘a thousand horses’, is a sonic and emotional rumble characterised by the unknown direction of oncoming horses as a metaphor to the sound of improvisation.
